It could've been worse
September 26, 2010 - Per Peterson
There are no doubt many homeowners in Marshall and the area dealing with added stress because of last week’s rains, but things could’ve been worse in Marshall. Those who were around in 1993 can attest to that. Marshall’s flood control, completed in 1996, was born out of the flood of 1993 and has been put to a real test four times now — in 1997, 2001, 2007, and again this year. Marshall residents, like those in other area cities across the southern third of Minnesota, have wet basements, they’ve lost carpeting, furniture, maybe even their patience. Some will lose their home. So, again, it could’ve been worse locally, especially considering the amount of rain that fell east of Marshall, in the south-central region of the state. Now is the time to deal with your situation, get your insurance issues taken care of, but it's also a good time to remember the numerous farmers who a week ago were looking at a great crop, the best in years, maybe decades, but are now standing in a field of water.
