Hot in Cleveland

July 6, 2010 - Cindy Votruba
I’m always grateful when I can watch a cable television show online. TV Land was heavily promoting a new show starring Hollywood’s hottest thing (or so it seems) Betty White, along with Jane Leeves, Valerie Bertanelli and Wendie Malick. “Hot in Cleveland” made its debut on June 16. It’s about three friends (Bertanelli, Malick and Leeves) who live in L.A. and are on their way to a two-week vacation in Paris to get Bertanelli’s character’s mind off her recent divorce. Leeves is an eyebrow stylist, whose famous client is Oprah and Malick plays an aging soap opera star whose show was canceled.

On the way to Paris, the plane hits some turbulence and has to make an emergency landing in Cleveland. So what do three L.A. women do in Cleveland? Hit a dive bar to pick up men. Then Bertanelli’s character has a one-night stand with a guy played by John Schneider and she wants to live in Cleveland. So she leases a house, which has Betty White as the caretaker.

It’s a funny show so far. The laugh track (something remniscent of the 1970s and 1980s sitcoms) is a little much, but the program is enjoyable. If you don’t get cable, go to TV Land’s website online.
