2010 graduation at MHS

May 31, 2010 - Cindy Votruba
It’s been a couple of years since I’ve covered Marshall High School’s graduation ceremony. I’ll admit I get a little nervous about doing such a big event. You have the 200 graduates in the theater area and the hallway. Then there are the parents, grandparents, siblings, other relatives and friends of the graduates, along with staff, faculty and school board members. And here’s little old me, shooting photos of anything that moves. There were photos in focus and then there are those that were not quite in focus (ie. the ones where the students are going two-by-two to their seats in the gym). As I was taking photos of the kids coming down the aisle, I felt someone approach my right side. A mother had the same idea I had. “Oh hi,” I told her and didn’t feel as bad plunked down on the floor trying to get some halfway decent photos.

Now it’s been 20 years since I’ve graduated high school. On Sunday, it felt like I was doing it all over, minus the cap and gown. I was practically in line with the Class of 2010 and then as the kids went on the move, I followed them down the hallway. I zipped past a cluster of people in folding chairs as I took my new position. Wish I could’ve been a little more inconspicuous, but I wanted to get the best photos I can.
