A listening ear?

April 29, 2010 - Karin Elton
In today’s paper, an AP story says that a third of pet-owning married women contend that their pets are better listeners than their husbands.

I don’t think animals “listen” which to me implies comprehension.

The story says one woman vents to her cat, two dogs and three horses about her husband.

One guy talks to his pet crayfish named Cray Aiken.

I don’t talk to our family dog, a Chihuahua, about my problems. My husband and I mainly talk baby talk to the dog which, appropriately enough, is named Baby.

My husband has nicknamed the dog Peanut and I call her KooKoo. Sickening, I know.

I never thought I would be like that with an animal. If I heard someone talking the way we do, I would curl my lip in disgust.

I tell my husband that she hates it when he talks baby talk to her. (Somehow Baby is discerning enough that she doesn’t mind when I do it.)
