Hello, miso

It's not often that you can say an impulse purchase really came through in a clinch. That's been the one bright spot in my life over the last day or two, as I've been in the grip of either some kind of viral bug or hellacious seasonal allergies (I'm still not sure which).

Anyway, a while back I had bought a sack of instant miso soup packets on a whim and the recommendation of a friend, but the package had pretty much been sitting in the cupboard until yesterday. Out of ramen noodles and desperate for some hot broth, I finally cracked it open and made myself a cup of miso. It hit the spot.

The downside was that I couldn't taste anything at the time, so I still don't know if I like miso. (Or more specifically, instant miso with dried seaweed garnish. The only sensations I could get from the garnish were salty and chewy.) I'm debating whether I should hang on to a packet for when my sense of taste comes back, or just keep making the soup so I'll never learn I don't like it.
