Ready for 2018

Marshall Sunrise Rotary is ready for 2018 with a full calendar of activities. Did you know that each month the Sunrise Club helps out at Esther’s Kitchen at Christ United Presbyterian Church? The Sunrise members help prepare meals the first Monday of each month to people in our community who gather for food and fellowship.

On Friday, Feb. 16, the Rotary club will be coordinating the local Food for Kidz program at the Marshall Middle School. Each year, with the help of students, we package over 90,000 meals in one morning to help fight hunger around the world. In the past eight years, we have packaged over 800,000 meals. Our goal is 1,000,000 meals in 10 years.

In March, our club sponsors an Essay Contest for area sixth-grade students. The essay asks students what “Service above Self” means to them. Essays are judged by Rotarians and prizes are awarded.

In April, we participate in the United Community Action Toss-a-thon (formerly the Bowl-a-thon) to help raise money for the Big Buddies program. Also in April is our PETS Conference which is a leadership conference for our incoming president in July. June brings the international convention.

This summer, our club will be involved with Hope Haven. Hope Haven is an organization that collects and repairs used wheelchairs. The Rotarians collect and store these chairs and then help distribute them once they are repaired. Each year a group of Rotarians goes somewhere in the world and distributes them to those in need. This January a group is going to Guatemala.

August is our annual pancake breakfast at the fire hall. October is our annual rose sales to raise funds for Club projects. November is our Foundation banquet and December is the Christmas social for all our Rotarians to bring their spouses to.

If you are looking to join an organization that does things and gets things done, (and has a lot of fun doing it) Sunrise Rotary is for you! We meet at 7 a.m. every Thursday at the Y in Marshall. Guests are always welcome.
