A special day

Summer, summer!

As we near August, kids are about to back to their school activities and practices. That means its time for Marshall to celebrate-with Sounds of Summer.

It’s the annual special events that culminate the summer, triggering in my mind that SMSU is back in session, school will soon be starting and it’s a time for our community to come together and celebrate!

This year the One Voice for Seniors group has a very special day planned for area seniors. Thursday, Aug. 17, will kick off with a mini-senior GOLD session from 9-11 a.m. is Dr. John Gochenouer retired SMSU management instructor. The topic is current events: A thoughtful, provocative and interactive discussion exploring all sides of world, national and regional events. You are more than welcome to sit quietly and enjoy the perspectives of your classmates or you may join in and offer your perspective on a variety of current events that may or may not affect you in your daily lives.

The class is free and open to the public. A $6 lunch will follow the class, right before the Wendinger Band takes the stage from 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. for your listening and dancing enjoyment. Their unique style with two concertinas, accompanied by brass and rhythm sections, complete with vocals is sure to captivate audiences.

Come join the fun! The event is at the Red Baron Arena — lunch is $6, beverages are available for purchase. Mini-senior GOLD class and band is free.
