Get connected to your community in 2017

Make volunteering a reality in 2017. The United Way of Southwest Minnesota has made it easier than ever to find opportunities and connect people directly with a variety of programs, schools and organizations that need help across the region. United Way recognizes that engaging volunteers is essential to accomplishing our mission to unite people and resources to improve lives and strengthen communities in southwest Minnesota and is proud to offer this free service.

Get Connected is an easy-to-use web-based platform that matches the right volunteers with appropriate opportunities in our neighborhoods. Users can search for needs based on their own interests, they can reach out to the agencies that care about the same things they care about, and they can find meaningful ways to give back. Area nonprofits, schools and organizations can use the system to post volunteer need opportunities to a larger audience. Needs range from one time opportunities to ongoing projects. The platform also features a free event tab to post upcoming community happenings.

Volunteering makes the perfect New Year’s resolution, because of the countless benefits to the region and to the health and happiness of the individuals who share their time. United Way community partner organizations (grantees) were the first to gain access to the system when it first launched, but the platform is available to other qualifying organizations, programs and/or schools throughout our local United Way’s service area free of charge. Currently more than 60 SW MN programs are featured on the site and are actively seeking volunteers. In mid-late January, Southwest Minnesota State University will launch the Campus Connect version to their students. This will allow faculty and students to access SW MN opportunities on our hub site as well as campus specific opportunities on their platform. The two platforms will link seamlessly for the end user thus creating even more opportunities for volunteerism and community engagement.

Visit our website at www.UnitedWaySWMN.org and click VOLUNTEER on the homepage to get started. Users can be automatically notified when their favorite program(s) post a new volunteer opportunity by selecting the “fan” button on their respective pages. Questions can be directed to unitedway@unitedwayswmn.org or by calling 507-929-2273.

Give. Advocate. Volunteer.

United Way of Southwest Minnesota is an autonomous, local organization working to create lasting change in people’s lives and the communities we serve in Lincoln, Lyon, Murray, Yellow Medicine and portions of Cottonwood, Lac qui Parle, Nobles and Redwood counties of Minnesota.
