On the Porch

The holiday season begins this weekend at the Lyon County Museum! Christmas trees are up, lights are on, and holiday music is playing. The fifth annual Indoor Christmas Tree Walk is open. Trees decorated by area businesses, groups, and nonprofit organizations are on view at the museum now through Dec. 30. All the trees are located on the main floor of the museum with the exception of one tree, which is located in the log cabin in the basement level of the museum.

Visitors at the museum may vote for their favorite tree or trees by placing money in the present next to the tree. The top three trees with the most money in their presents will win 1st prize: $150, 2nd prize: $100, and 3rd prize: $50 in Marshall Chamber Dollars. The funds raised from the contest will support the Lyon County Historical Society Museum. This is a great opportunity to support the businesses and non-profit organizations that decorated a tree along with the museum.

Unfortunately, LCHS is not hosting the annual Holiday Home Tour this year. We were unable to secure four homes for the home tour. We will have a holiday open house from 4-8 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 14, at the museum. We will have holiday treats and goodies along with music. More details to come on the holiday open house.

For a fundraiser, we have 2018 calendars for sale at the museum for $15 each. The calendars were produced by LCHS and feature photographs from the museum’s collection along with photographs from the Balaton Historical Society and Wheels Across the Prairie Museum. We have a limited number of calendars, so stop by the museum to purchase a calendar. The calendars make a great holiday present. We also have adult books, children’s books, and old fashioned toys for sale in the museum’s gift shop.

Have a great Thanksgiving and holiday season! The Lyon County Historical Society Museum is a nonprofit, member-supported organization.
