Is spring in the air?

When Mother Nature gives you a stretch of nice, spring-like weather in the middle of February, you take advantage of it, no matter where you may roam. Last Saturday started out nice and sunny, but it got a little gray and cloudy toward the afternoon. But Ross and I still opted for a quick jaunt, not in a park, but in the area around and on the other side of the pedestrian bridge.

We parked the car and set off into the Patricia Court neighborhood and the surrounding streets. I’ve been to many parts of this town over the last 18 years, but exploring them on foot gives you a new perspective. The air even smelled like spring, a little earthy and damp.

Several blocks later, we come to the entrance of the pedestrian bridge. This is the first time I’ve ever seen the bridge in person. It was kind of trippy looking out over Minnesota Highway 23. But because I get a little dizzy at heights, I kept my glancing to a minimum. We walked near the community gardens plot and into the housing addition. Ross noted that the streets were named after cars, like Mercedes, Viper, Continental and Thunderbird.

The walk itself was simple, but it was pleasant. I kind of rushed it at the end because I wanted to get to church by 5 p.m. When I logged my Fitbit stats for the day, I told Ross that our walk was 65 minutes long. He thought it was shorter. Guess time flies when you’re having fun. I also put in more than 16,000 steps that day, which has been the most in quite a while. I’ve been a little sedentary lately.

The warm weather spoiled us a little, but then you remember it’s still February and it’s still winter. But hopefully I’ll get another journey around some part of town in the near future.
