Setting facts straight on joining American Legion

To the editor:

Correcting a statement: In Tuesday’s Independent, Legion Membership Director Mike Maxa was quoted as saying anyone who was active for one day could join the American Legion.

It should have said “one day of active service any time during the eligibility periods.” I was drafted in the U.S. Army August 1955 and was honorably discharged August 1957.

When I wanted to join the Legion I was told I was ineligible because of the time period as was anyone else in this time frame.

Just setting the fact straight.

Proud to have served.
