Sturrock deserves reelection to council

To the editor:

We are long-time leaders of the DFL and Republican parties in Lyon County. Over the years we have disagreed on many things but this year we are in firm agreement that David Sturrock deserves reelection to the Marshall City Council.

As residents of Ward Two, we have been impressed by David’s attention to neighborhood issues. These include getting snow plow routes rotated to help those who were always getting cleared last, street and sidewalk maintenance issues, and working with residents of the mobile home park to get their needs addressed.

David was responsible for getting council approval to connect the new Patriot Park with the city’s bike path network. This will link the park with nearby neighborhoods and make it easier for bicyclists, pedestrians and young families to enjoy its amenities.

On citywide issues, David has been a voice for the careful review of spending, and has been willing to question staff proposals and vote against them when their cost couldn’t be justified. He also initiated the development of a long-term debt and financial management plan so city leaders can make prudent, well-informed budget decisions.

Finally, David’s colleagues thought enough of his leadership to elect him council president pro tem. In this role he has substituted for the mayor at a variety of public events and official meetings.

DFLers, Republicans and Independents, please join us in voting to reelect David Sturrock to the Marshall City Council from Ward Two.
