Wind farms good for local economy

To the editor:

On Tuesday, Feb. 20, I went to a public hearing on the Blazing Star II wind farm in Hendricks. I was impressed by what I heard about the commitment of the owner, Xcel, and the developer, Geronimo Energy, to use Minnesota workers to build this project.

I have worked on past wind farm projects, and I know that many of these projects are built by out of state workers. When this happens, we miss out on a lot of positive economic benefits. Thankfully, this project will use a lot of Minnesota workers. These workers will pay property taxes and support our community businesses. The money they spend will go back into our regional economy.

There are a lot of wind projects planned in our region. I hope that the companies on these upcoming projects follow Xcel’s example by providing good jobs for local workers.
