Don’t see ‘kinder, gentler nation’

To the editor:

George H.W. Bush, in his acceptance speech Aug. 18, 1988, at the Republican National Convention, called for a “kinder, gentler nation,” “a nation of community,” and “a new harmony among the races.” In 1988 I voted for those values. I do not see them in today’s political climate.

Today, are we a kinder, gentler nation?
