Why give away East Side School?

To the editor:

I am concerned about the upcoming vote on the suggest need for a new grade school. Was it not just a few years ago the school officials and board decided that we didn’t need East Side School and they gave it away to a private school?

The population of Marshall in that last few years has actually decreased. If that is in fact true, what is the need for a new grade school? I am under the impression that over one-third of the eligible Marshall School district children (1-8) do not attend the public schools. Many hundreds are home-schooled, attend Samuel Lutheran, Holy Redeemer or True Light Christian School (formerly Marshall Area Christian School).

Is this “needed” because the staff wants a new school? I am very, very suspicious about that possibility. Secondly, if the East Side school was “so bad,” why is it being fully utilized by TLCS children every day?
