Short Takes

Helping out when needed

THUMBS UP:

To all the Good Samaritans out there who have helped their fellow humans during this spate of snowstorms whether the person is stuck on the street or helping snow blow driveways. A special shout-out goes to Alissa and Josh Moat who helped a Southwest Minnesota State student on a frigid day after she had to choose between getting up-close-and personal with a snowbank or crashing into an abruptly-turning car.

RTR to go forward

THUMBS UP:

To dropping the RTR lawsuit and letting the majority of Russell, Tyler and Ruthton voters decide on building a new school for the area children. The district needs support at this time in making the best decisions that will benefit the larger community.

February has been snowiest month

THUMBS DOWN:

To breaking records. Usually breaking a record is a great accomplishment. Marshall needed fewer than 2 inches of snow to make it the third-snowiest on record in the past 85 years, according to forecasters out of the National Weather Service-Sioux Falls, South Dakota, office. That record was easily broken this week. Isn’t March officially known as the snowiest month?
