Firefighters from all over respond

THUMBS UP:

Firefighters throughout the region once again deserve a big thumbs up for the response early Friday morning to the fire that destroyed a grain elevator in Hanley Falls. The Yellow Medicine County Sheriff’s Office said a total of 10 fire departments responded. Many of the responders came as far as way as 30 miles. Ladder trucks came in from Marshall and Montevideo. Hanley Falls Fire chief Paul Neisius expressed his appreciation for the mutual aid response during a phone conversation with the Independent. That was also expressed by Farmers Cooperative Elevator general manager Scott Dubbelde. “We have wonderful emergency responders in our towns,” he said. These responders have proven that point time and time again.

Asking Mother Nature for a break

THUMBS DOWN:

Even the Easter Bunny doesn’t get a break. Weather conditions were not ideal for Easter egg hunts last weekend. Mother Nature continues to remind us who is in charge.Tuesday’s snow storm kept snow shovelers busy Tuesday. And forecasters say more snow is on the way this weekend, with wind for good measure. Will spring ever arrive?
