Appointments good opportunity for Tracy Council
It appears the Tracy City Council is starting a new chapter with the start of the new year. The Council survived a rough 2017 that was marked with accusations, resignations and a recall effort.
Two weeks ago, the Council unanimously appointed Pamela Cooreman to replace outgoing mayor, Steve Ferrazzano. She previously acted as mayor pro tem. Then on Monday, Kou Thao was sworn in to fill the seat left vacant by Bill Chukuske who recently resigned.
Cooreman will have her hands full in refereeing some of the ongoing issues. And a recall election involving Councilman Tony Peterson is just around the corner, scheduled for Feb. 13. Citizens who successfully filed enough signatures for the recall are accusing Peterson of conflict of interest and using the “bully pulpit” against city workers.
However, the appointments of Cooreman and Thao will hopefully propel the Council into a more positive direction in 2018. It’s what the citizens of Tracy deserve.
