A boost for Lake Benton area

THUMBS UP:

The Lake Benton area received a boost when it was announced Hole in the Mountain Park was named to regional park status. It will now qualify for a Legacy Foundation matching funds grant, Lincoln County Board commissioners were told. According to county officials, the funds will allow the county to update trails and market the activities. The park is located within the western city limits off Highway 14 and is used for ATV riding. The park has 21 campsites with electricity and water and 30 electrical sites located in a separate area which is reserved for those campers who bring their horses. The park is approximately 800 acres of woodland and prairie land which includes five miles of hiking and horse trails.

YMCA makes good investment

THUMBS UP:

The Marshall Area YMCA fixed a yearly $225,000 problem with major upgrades to its electrical system. The $225,000 is the average amount of money the YMCA spends each year in electricity. While the $800,000 investment the YMCA is making seems like a lot of money, it should recoup that cost through electrical savings within a few years.

White Christmas comes with disclaimer

THUMBS SIDEWAYS:

Yes Santa, there will be a white Christmas after all. A couple of inches of snow Thursday combined with freezing temperatures for the foreseeable future should ensure the white Christmas Monday. But now the fun starts. Get the shovels out and prepare for slipping and sliding on roadways. Be careful out there.
