Fantastic seasons recorded by Minneota, Wabasso
ongratulations to the Minneota Vikings for defeating the Wabasso Rabbits 28-13 for the Class A Championship at U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis.
Minneota head coach Chad Johnson did a good job summing up the win. “It feels awesome.” And that might be an understatement when considering some of the recent accomplishments recorded by the Vikings:
• It was the third state championship in four years.
• Senior members of the team own a 51-1 overall record. The only blemish was a loss to Wabasso year ago in the playoffs.
• Three state titles
“It’s crazy. I hope they understand what they got to be part of,” Johnston told the Independent after the game.
The coach is right. The players were definitely part of something very special that they can cherish for ever.
Meanwhile, hats off to the Rabbits. They experienced a special season as well, and have no reason to hang their heads. It was their second trip to the title game. Wabasso also finished the regular season 8-0 and average nearly 44 points a game.
“It’s a journey,” Wabasso football player Nick Altermatt told the Independent. “Win or lose, this is one of best experiences I’ve had in my life,”
And one not to be forgotten.
