Marshall successful in hosting pheasant opener event
The words used by Gov. Mark Dayton when talking to an Independent reporter Saturday probably summed up the best how successful Marshall was in hosting the 2017 Minnesota Governor’s Pheasant Hunting Opener this past weekend.
“We’ve had a spectacular weekend here in Marshall,” Dayton said. “I can’t thank people enough for working so hard, for putting on something of this magnitude — 375 people (Friday night) at the banquet, all the guides and private landowners who opened their lands for us to hunt (Saturday) — it’s been such a huge community effort.”
A reader who also participated in Saturday’s hunting event posted praise under the Independent article posted on Facebook.
“Very impressed with the entire event! Well organized and great people! Proud to say that I’m from Marshall!” Marc Fenske wrote.
“February’s Super Bowl planners can only hope to be as well organized,” wrote Minneapolis Star Tribune outdoors columnist Dennis Anderson in Sunday’s edition.
Yes, the organizers of the pheasant hunt opener events — and we know there were many involved — should be proud of their efforts to present Marshall as a destination spot for hunting enthusiasts. Marshall definitely rolled out the red carpet and welcomed all who traveled from one end of the state to the other to take part in something special.
