It’s over, and it’s just beginning

It’s over. Well, at least the process is.

Yes, there are election-related stories in today’s paper, and there’s a pretty good bet there will be more political stories on Page 1A of the Independent for the rest of the week, maybe even into next week – it’s not going away. However, today, on some level, we at least feel free, able to move on with our lives with one of the most vitriolic presidential campaigns in the rearview mirror.

So, now what?

At the time this was written, it was unknown who the next president of the United States would be, but as we all know, the two major party candidates weren’t exactly the most beloved. In fact, both failed in convincingly winning over their very own party – they were the “Well, I have to vote for someone” candidates. What does that say about them? And what does that say about the next administration? The next Supreme Court nomination?

The future of our country, our society, is as unclear as it’s ever been – whether Hillary Clinton or Donald Trump is leading us, and we suggest you all hold on tight, because it’s going to be a bumpy ride. While we all woke up with this annoying presidential election behind us and a sense that we can finally move on, unfortunately, what we’re moving on to is terribly unclear.

At least we can take solace knowing that on a local level, we have good people representing us, people who care about their state, their district, and their constituents.
