Richard Spencer

SUN CITY CENTER, Fla. — Services for Dr. Richard L. Spencer, 84, of Sun City Center, Fla., took place Friday, July 20, for family and friends at St. Andrews Presbyterian Church in Sun City Center, Fla.

Richard died peacefully at home, surrounded by family, on Monday, July 16, 2018.

Richard Lawrence Spencer was born Feb. 11, 1934, in Dunlap, Iowa, to Edward and Mildred Spencer. He graduated from University of California at Davis in 1965 with a doctorate in Biochemistry. He married Carol Meyer, in 1959.

After moving to Marshall in 1968, he began teaching at Southwest Minnesota State University as a chemistry professor, retiring in 1992.

Richard enjoyed fishing, hunting, playing golf as well as watching all sports on television. He also enjoyed, immensely, spending a great deal of time with all his grandchildren and their activities.

Richard is survived by his wife of 59 years, Carol; children, Tom (Terry) Spencer of Yukon, Okla., Robert (Janice) Spencer of Lyons Bay, B.C., and Anne (Kurt) Christensen of Valrico, Fla.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Raymond and Rolland.
