Dalton Anderson

COTTONWOOD — A memorial service for Dalton Anderson of Denver, Colo., formerly of Cottonwood, will be held at the Cottonwood Community Center on Sunday at 1 p.m. Dalton recently left this world at the age of 25 surrounded by the outdoors of Colorado that he loved.

Dalton John Anderson was born to Keith and Debra Anderson on Jan. 13, 1993. He grew up with his sister Brittany in Cottonwood. He was an active child and loved spending time outside playing in the sandbox with his trucks, jumping into a pool, and climbing everything in sight. An avid reader, he often put aside his schoolwork to pull out a book. His tight bond with his childhood friends lasted his entire life.

Dalton attended Lakeview Schools before graduating from the Marshall East Campus Learning Alternatives (MECLA) with his high school diploma in 2011. While helping his uncle Erik build grain bins during summer breaks Dalton developed a love of working with his hands that led him to attend Minnesota West Community and Technical College in Pipestone. He graduated in 2013 with Associate of Applied Science degrees in Plumbing and Heating, Ventilation & Air Conditioning/Refrigeration Technology (HVAC). He began his career in Brookings, S.D., before moving to Denver, Colo., in 2015, where he found a community that became a second family.

Dalton loved the outdoors, especially the mountains of Colorado. He enjoyed camping, hiking, and fishing. He learned to hunt deer with his father and shared a love of the Minnesota Vikings with his mother. His sister was both his partner in crime and his political adversary. Loud heavy metal music was always playing in his car and Trailer Park Boys was continually on his television. He had a great sense of humor and often a mischievous twinkle in his eye. Dalton was intelligent, hard-working, and always told it like he saw it.

Dalton is survived by his mother and step-father Debra and Mike Miller of Cosby, Mo.; father and step-mother Keith and Cynthia Anderson of Hillsboro, Texas; sister Brittany Anderson of Rochester; grandparents Clifford and Jeanette Anderson of Cottonwood and Yvonne Jensen of Mankato; aunts and uncles Erik Anderson of Cottonwood; ElRoy and Patsy Jensen of Ivanhoe; Jane and David Dunteman of Harrisburg, S.D.; Sheldon and Christine Jensen of Inez, Texas; Susan and Jim Rink of Naperville, Ill.; Kim and Bruce Sundquist of Mankato; and many cousins and friends.

He was preceded in death by his aunt Merrilee Anderson.

Donations may be made in his memory to the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline.
