PORTER — Services for Walter Syltie Sr., 90, of Porter were Dec. 29 at Bethel Lutheran Church in Porter. Burial was at the Bethel Lutheran Cemetery, Porter. Houseman Funeral Home, Birk Chapel is entrusted with the arrangements.
He died Monday, Dec. 25, 2017, at his home in Porter.
He was born May 21, 1927, in Alta Vista Township, Lincoln County, to John J. and Anna (Gilbertson) Syltie. He was drafted into the U.S. Army in January 1953 and completed basic training at Fort Chaffee, Ark. Following completion of basic training, he transferred to the 470th Counter Intelligence Corp at Fort Holabird, Baltimore, Md. He completed Counter Intelligence School and served as an intelligence analyst at Fort Amador in the Panama Canal Zone. After transferring to the reserves, he was honorably discharged in 1961.
