Roland Columbus

REDWOOD FALLS — Services for Roland “Trulo” Columbus (Anpetu-Tawa), 84, of Redwood Falls, formerly of the Lower Sioux Community, will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Cornelia’s Episcopal Church- Lower Sioux Community. Visitation will begin at 4 p.m. today at the St. Cornelia’s Guild Hall with a prayer service at 7 p.m., and will continue until the time of the service on Wednesday. Burial is in St. Cornelia’s Cemetery. Stephens Funeral Service – Redwood Valley Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

He died Saturday, Oct. 14, 2017, at Sunwood Good Samaritan Care Center in Redwood Falls.

He was born April 22, 1933, in Morton, to Thomas and Eleanor (St. Clair) Columbus. He served in the US Air Force during the Korean Conflict from 1949-1954. He was in a plane that was shot down. He stayed there for seven days before he was found. He was a paratrooper for three years under strategic command doing U.S. security.

Survivors include his wife, Fawn; children, Virgil Blacklance and Mary Ellen Olson; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; and siblings, Tim Columbus of San Diego, Lillian Wilson, LaVonne Swenson, Melissa Chee, Vince Columbus, all of the Lower Sioux, Christopher Columbus of Redwood Falls, Marilyn Hisday and Dana Grey Eagle, both of the Lower Sioux.
