Gwen Bruns

LUCAN — Services for Gwen Bruns, 87, of Lucan and rural Milroy are at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Trinity Lutheran Church in Lucan. Burial will follow in the Trinity Lutheran Cemetery, Lucan. Visitation will be from 9-10:30 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Lucan.

Gwen passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 25, 2017, at her daughter’s home.

Gwendolyne Norcutt was born Oct. 22, 1929, on the family farm in rural Lucan. She was one of 12 children born to Leslie and Edna (Weikert) Norcutt. Gwen was baptized as an infant and later confirmed on July 9, 1944, in the Christian faith. She grew up in Lucan, attended Lucan schools and graduated from Milroy High School with the class of 1947. After high school, Gwen worked at the Lucan grocery store.

On Oct. 20, 1951, Gwen was united in marriage to Virgil “Bud” Bruns at Trinity Lutheran Church in Lucan. The couple made their home in Lucan and Gwen worked at the Post Office there, eventually serving as postmaster. Gwen and Bud shared 44 years of marriage together and raised four children: Cindy, Dean, Doug, and Sheila. Gwen retired after 44 1/2 years with the United States Postal Service.

Gwen was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Lucan. Her enjoyments in life included cooking, baking, flower gardening, crocheting, and making many quilts. She always kept a tidy house and enjoyed spending time with her family.

She will be dearly missed.

Gwen is survived by her children, Cindy Petersen of Milroy, Dr. Dean Bruns (and Deb) of Marshall; daughter-in-law, Eva Bruns of Lynd; six grandchildren, Leslie (and John) Murphy of Pierre, S.D., Nathan Petersen of Milroy, Seth (and Melissa) Bruns of Marshall, Stacy (and Zach) Olson of Marshall, Zach (and Brittany) Bruns of Burnsville, Cody Bruns (Rebecca Fedde) of Tracy; three great-grandchildren, Maci, Olivia, Octavia; nine siblings; nephews, nieces, other relatives and friends.

Gwen was preceded in death by her parents, Les and Edna Norcutt; husband, Bud Bruns; son, Doug Bruns, daughter, Sheila Bruns; and son-in-law, Steve Petersen.
