TRACY — A Celebration of Life and Remembrance for James “Jim” R. Cooley, 72, of Westbrook will be at 3 p.m. Saturday at the Westbrook Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Westbrook Cemetery. Stephens Funeral Service – Westbrook Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
He died Wednesday, May 17, 2017, at Slayton Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center.
He was born June 25, 1944, in Fulda, to Richard and Viola (Olson) Cooley. He entered the U.S. Marines on March 12, 1962. He received his honorable discharge March 8, 1966. Jim was attached to the 3/9 Marines as a radioman and was the first to amphibiously land in Vietnam in Da Nang. They were met with accolades from the Vietnamese and with gifts and flowers. He was proud to be a Marine.
Survivors include his wife, Charlotte; children, Chad of Rosehill Township, Brian of Windom, Susan Madson of Waseca, and Barb of Trempealeau, Wis.; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; siblings, Betty Johnson of Sanborn and John of Westbrook.
