Helen B. Gareri

PLYMOUTH — Mass of Christian Burial for Helen B. Gareri, 73, of Plymouth is at 11 a.m. Monday at Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Church, 155 County Rd. 24 in Medina. Visitation is from 3-5 p.m. Sunday with 4:30 p.m. prayers and memory sharing at Gearty-Delmore Plymouth Chapel, 15800 37th Ave. N. at Vicksburg Lane and one hour prior to Mass at church. Burial is at Holy Name Cemetery. Memorials preferred to ALS Assn. MN Chapter or Holy Name of Jesus Church. Arrangements are by Gearty-Delmore, 763-553-1411.

Helen’s five year struggle with ALS ended peacefully in hospice care on Tuesday, Feb. 21, 2017.

She was born May 24, 1943, in Marshall. While attending St. Ben’s University, she met her future husband, Peter Gareri, who was attending St. John’s University. They were married on Oct. 1, 1966. Helen began her career as an elementary school teacher. After raising her three children, she returned to teaching and spent over 20 years at Peppermint Fence Preschool. As a Benedictine Oblate, she was a woman of strong faith. Her kind, gentle character was felt by all who knew her. Helen found immense joy in the simple things in life: sunsets at the lake, a garden in bloom, a beautiful song, playing with her grandchildren, and time with her family and friends.

Survived by children, Steve (Despina Lazarides) Gareri, Lisa (Paul) Hess, Peter (Koryeah) Gareri; grandchildren, Mike and Nick Davis, Ben and Claire Hess, Naomi, Dominic and Xavier Gareri; siblings, Fran (Alice) Blomme, Irma (Tom) Cattoor, Nancy (Jim) Brandt, Rich (Jean) Blomme; many nieces, nephews and other loving relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by husband, Peter D. Gareri; parents, Marcel and Bertha (Haneca) Blomme.
