Evelyn Kuchera

MINNEOTA — Mass of Christian Burial for Evelyn “Evie” Kuchera, 82, of Minneota, is at 11 a.m. Friday at St. Edward Catholic Church in Minneota. Visitation will be 9:30-10:30 a.m. Friday at Rehkamp-Horvath Funeral Home in Minneota.  Burial will take place at Sts Cyril & Methodius Catholic Cemetery in Taunton.

Evie died Monday, Dec. 5, 2016, at the Minneota Manor in Minneota.

Evelyn Clara (Verschelde) Kuchera was born Feb. 24, 1934, in rural Minneota to Herman and Mary (Hollebosch) Verschelde. She grew up on the family farm and attended school in Minneota. On July 11, 1951, she was united in marriage to Mayo “Ole” Kuchera. The couple had one son, William, and made their home in Taunton. Evie worked at the Kerr Hatchery for 10 years, and at the Gamble’s store in Minneota for 35 years. She enjoyed music, dancing and gardening. She also enjoyed her daily trips to the Corner Café in Taunton for coffee. In 2002, Evie moved to the Sterling House Assisted Living in Mankato. She returned to Minneota to live in the Minneota Manor in July of 2016.

Survivors include her grandchildren Amy (and Brett) Hentges of Lakeville and Bill Kuchera (special friend Jamie) of Janesville; great-grandchildren Chloe and Dawson Hentges, Matt and Hunter Kuchera and Zara Winklemeyer; siblings Ronald (and Midge) Verschelde of Norfolk, Va., Mary Jane Hager of Miltona, Norma (and Tom) Conti of Rockford, Ill., Adrienne Verschelde of St. Clair, Roxanne (and Terry) Lundquist of Canby and Mary Ellen Haugen (and John Harlow) of Cannon Falls; daughter-in-law Mary Kuchera of Janesville; nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Mayo, son William, brother Duane Verschelde, sister Angie Schlicht and brother-in-law Bill Hager.
