Party bust leads to 3 arrests, 22 citations in Granite Falls

GRANITE FALLS — A weekend party with underage drinking resulted in three adults being arrested, and close to two dozen people cited for minor consumption, tobacco violations and drug related charges, the Granite Falls Police Department said Thursday. In a news release, Granite Falls Police said violations of the city’s social host ordinance, which prohibits gatherings where minors consume alcoholic beverages, “will not be taken lightly.”

Around 1:25 a.m. Sunday, officers on duty at the Western Fest street dance responded to a telephone tip of a party with underage drinking on the 700 block of 7th Avenue, Granite Falls Police said. Officers found minors who had been drinking, and loud music coming from inside a residence.

Police said a total of 58 people were identified on the property and in the residence. They ranged in age from 13 to 27 years old. Three adults — the host of the party, and two adults who fought with law enforcement officers — were arrested and taken to the Yellow Medicine County Jail, the news release said. Police said 22 people also received citations for minor consumption, tobacco violations, and drug related charges.

Granite Falls Police were assisted at the scene by the Yellow Medicine County Sheriff’s Office.
