State highways are closed, powerlines down

The city of Marshall has issued a statement which says that as of 7:05 a.m., “all state highways in Lyon County and most of southwest Minnesota are now closed. Do not travel for your safety and the safety of emergency responders.”

In addition, the Minnesota Department of Transportation is shutting down State Highway 14 west of Marshall because of zero visibility and powerlines are down over the road.

Lyon Lincoln Electric Cooperative reports that crews are headed out Thursday morning to work on restoring power to the southeast portion of its service territory. Between 300-400 members are without power in the areas between Russell and Tracy. Ice that built up on the trees and power lines combined with high wind is causing the issues. More information will be provided as it becomes available.
