Veteran’s Day events

• Community Wide Veterans Day program and meal will take place at 4 p.m. Sunday at the Adult Community Center in Marshall. A roast beef meal will follow the program. The cost for the meal is $4.50 for those 55 or older and $7.20 for those younger than 55.

• The Marshall High School Honor Society invites any active service members, veterans, military families, and anyone else who would like to attend to a Veterans Day program at 8 a.m. Monday at Marshall High School. Attendees should enter at the main entrance, sign in the main office, and then go to the gymnasium for the proceedings.

• Yellow Medicine East Middle/High School has invited all veterans from the YME School District to attend the 2018 Veterans Day program at 9 a.m. Monday at the Fagen Fighters WWII Museum located outside of Granite Falls.

The guest speaker is Ingrid Radke-Azvedo, author of “Out of the Rubble,” which is about her life in pre and post war Berlin with a second emphasis on the Berlin Airlift. Students in grades 6-12 will be present at the program with the YME concert band and concert choir performing as well.

• The Tracy Area High School’s annual Veterans Day program will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday in the gymnasium.

The program, sponsored by the Tracy American Legion Post 173, will begin with opening remarks from Commander Harley Wahl. Heidi Fier, Lyon County Veterans’ Services officer, will give a presentation followed by the TAHS choir’s rendition of “Battle Hymn of the Republic.” The Veterans Day dinner will take place at noon at the Legion Post. Attendees are asked to bring a dish to pass.

• The Slayton American Legion annual veterans banquet is at 6 p.m. Monday at American Legion Erwin March Post 64, 3048 Broadway Ave. in Slayton. All area veterans and families are invited. The menu includes turkey, potato, stuffing, vegetable and dessert. A program follows the meal. There is no cost for this event.
