Snow comes with a few crashes in southwest MN

Thursday brought some snow into the area — and at the same time, several crashes were reported on area roads. A total of four injury accidents were reported between Thursday afternoon and Friday morning, in locations ranging from Morton to Lynd.

Three people, including two children, were injured in a crash reported at 3:43 p.m. Thursday on Highway 19 in Morton, the Minnesota State Patrol said. A 2003 GMC driven by Ashley Vangsness, 27, of Morton, was westbound on Highway 19 when Vangsness lost control. The vehicle hit a concrete barrier, crossed lanes of traffic, and hit another concrete barrier before coming to rest in the traffic lane. Road conditions were snowy or icy at the time, the State Patrol reported.

Vangsness and two children who were passengers in the GMC were taken to the Redwood Falls hospital with non life-threatening injuries, the State Patrol said. The Renville County Sheriff’s Office, the Morton ERU and North Memorial Ambulance all responded at the crash.

North of Wabasso, the Redwood County Sheriff’s Office, Wabasso Fire Department and Ambulance responded to a one-vehicle rollover crash reported at 4:52 p.m. The crash happened at the “S” curve at the intersection of Redwood County Road 6 and Jade Avenue. A Wabasso resident driving a 2006 Hummer lost control on the curve and went into the ditch, the Redwood County Sheriff’s Office said. The driver was checked out by Wabasso Ambulance, and later released with no injuries, the Sheriff’s Office said.

A second crash near Morton injured one person at 6:21 p.m., the State Patrol said. A 2004 Chevrolet driven by Katie Wendinger, 24, of Morton, was westbound on Highway 19 when Wendinger lost control. The vehicle went into the north ditch and rolled. The State Patrol reported snowy or icy road conditions at the time of the crash. Wendinger was taken to the Redwood Falls hospital with non life-threatening injuries, the State Patrol said. A 55-year-old man who was a passenger in the vehicle was uninjured, the State Patrol said. The Renville County Sheriff’s Office, the Morton MRU and North Memorial Ambulance all responded at the crash.

A South Dakota woman was injured in a two-vehicle crash reported at 6:46 p.m. Thursday near Lynd. A 1994 Oldsmobile driven by Debora Lee, 57, of Madison, S.D., was southbound on Minnesota Highway 23 when it began to spin, and was rear-ended by a 2018 Chevrolet driven by a 39-year-old Tyler woman, the State Patrol said. Road conditions were snowy or icy at the time of the crash, the State Patrol said. Lee was taken to Avera Marshall Medical Center with non life-threatening injuries, the State Patrol said.

The Lyon County Sheriff’s Office, Marshall Fire Department, Lynd Ambulance and North Memorial Ambulance all responded at the crash.

There were a few crashes reported within the city of Marshall as well. Marshall Police said a property damage accident was reported at 3:33 p.m. Thursday on Tiger Drive. A report is also pending on an injury accident reported at 3:57, on Minnesota Highway 68. A third crash in Marshall was also reported at 4:59, at the intersection of East Main Street and Canoga Park Drive.

The Lyon County Sheriff’s Office also reported a property damage accident at 7:47 p.m. Thursday, on U.S. Highway 59 near Marshall.
