License reinstated for GM Tobacco

MARSHALL — A Marshall tobacco business has its license back after action by the Marshall City Council on Tuesday night. GM Tobacco can resume selling tobacco and tobacco-related products immediately, said Marshall City Clerk Kyle Box.

The council revoked the business’ tobacco license last week after it learned that GM Tobacco had tax violations on the sale of tobacco products. The Minnesota Department of Revenue said the state confiscated some inventory in July, including vaping “juices” and long cut tobacco, because the products hadn’t been acquired through a licensed vendor.

However, the Department of Revenue later provided the city with a letter confirming that GM Tobacco is current on its taxes, Box said. At a council work session Tuesday, council members voted to reinstate the business’ tobacco license, and waive a reapplication and license fee. GM Tobacco could go back to selling tobacco products right away, Box said.
