House fire consumes rural residence

MARSHALL — Marshall firefighters were called to a house fire at 2767 Lochland Hills Drive near Lake Marshall Tuesday around 2:45 a.m. Mutual aid was called with firefighters from Balaton, Garvin, Lynd and Tracy responding. North Ambulance, Lyon County Sheriff and Marshall Police Department also responded.

“One occupant was in the house at the time of the fire,” Marshall Fire Chief Quentin Brunsvold said, “but he had extricated himself and was standing at the neighbor’s when we arrived. No human was injured in the fire.”

The cause of the fire is under investigation by the state fire marshal, Brunsvold said.

Two more reports came in again around 9 a.m. and 11:15 a.m. that brought the fire department back out to the smoldering remains of the home. Dispatch said that fire had flared up again on the west side of the home. It was the only side with siding left under which the fire had temporarily hidden.

“It’s difficult to know how often we’ll have to go out there,” Brunsvold said, “because it’s hard to get into the house to put it all out. All we can do is keep spraying and praying.”
