Vehicle submerged in river; occupant escapes

MARSHALL — A vehicle has disappeared into the Redwood River on the north edge of Marshall, but Marshall Police say the driver of the vehicle was able to escape before it was completely submerged.

On Friday evening, emergency responders received a report of a vehicle that went into the river near North Bruce Street, along the winding gravel road locally known as Skunk Hollow Road. The driver of the vehicle, a juvenile male, lost control and went into the water, said Sgt. Jim Marshall of the Marshall Police.

The driver was able to get out of the vehicle before it was submerged in the river, Marshall said. He was treated and released by North Memorial Ambulance.

The vehicle was fully submerged, and couldn’t be seen from the river bank. Marshall said responders will wait over the weekend before possibly attempting to recover it.

“It was very fortunate” the driver wasn’t trapped inside the vehicle, Marshall said. “It could have been worse.”

Marshall Police, the Lyon County Sheriff’s Department, the Marshall Fire Department and North Memorial Ambulance responded at the scene.
