Flash flood warnings issued across Lyon, Murray and Redwood counties

The National Weather Service has issued flooding warnings for southeastern Lyon County in southwestern Minnesota until 1:15 p.m. At 7:36 a.m., Doppler radar indicated heavy rain across the warned area. Six to eight inches of rain have fallen. Flash flooding is occurring.

Tracy residents are experiencing flooding in their basements. One resident has reported 3 feet of water in the her basement with sewage overflow.

Law enforcement reported water over County Road 7 near the intersection of state Highway 19. County Road 33 in Marshall is among the area roads closed because of flooding.

Murray County reports that a tree has fallen across Highway 59 and that area is closed.

The Minnesota Department of Transportation warns that “Highway 19 at the intersection of CR 5 to Marshall is closed due to flooding. Highway 14 from Tracy to Walnut Grove is also closed due to flooding.”

Motorists should be aware, and drive with caution in Lyon County, Murray County and Redwood County as roads are flooded. Roads are still open, but they are under water. MnDOT is currently assessing the situation and will provide updates, including road closures, as information becomes available.

In addition to the counties mentioned above, city streets in Marshall are also under water. The city of Marshall asks that residents drive carefully.

Highway 91 between 151st Street and 211th Street north of the Lake Wilson area is now closed because of flooding, according to MnDOT.

The following roads are currently closed in southern Minnesota:

· Highway 59 at 191st Street near Lake Shetek

· Highway 19 at the intersection of CR 5

· Highway 14 from Tracy to Walnut Grove

MnDOT has issued a No Travel Advisory in Murray County.

The city of Marshall has posted on its Facebook page that “there have been intermittent power outages, including at the Water and Wastewater Treatment Plants and lift stations.” The city is asking Marshall residents to “only use water as absolutely necessary to help conserve until the situation can be resolved.”

Delivery of the Marshall Independent’s Tuesday edition is being delayed in some areas because of the flooding, according to Circulation Manager Rob Purrington. Southwest Minnesota Community Transit is reporting on its Facebook page that flooding is causing device suspensions in some areas.
