Two charged in connection with Milroy attempted robbery

MILROY — Two men, both Worthington residents, have been charged in connection with an attempted robbery and shooting in Milroy in April. Redwood County District Court records said criminal complaints were filed Thursday against Mut Biel Gach, 19, and Buomkuoth Diew, 18.

Court records said warrants were issued for Gach and Diew. Both men are facing unrelated criminal charges in Nobles County in connection with a gunpoint apartment robbery in Worthington. As of Thursday afternoon, Gach was listed in custody at the Nobles County Jail.

In a Thursday news release, the Redwood County Sheriff’s Office said a total of four people are being charged in relation to the incident. However, two are juveniles, and their identities will not be released, the Sheriff’s Office said.

The attempted robbery was reported around 7 p.m. on April 21, at a residence on the 200 block of Euclid Avenue in Milroy. The caller described three males with dark complexions, one carrying a pistol, trying to gain access to the residence. Investigation of the scene found a gun had been fired into the residence by one of the suspects, the Sheriff’s Office said.

Gach was charged in Redwood County District Court with first degree attempted burglary, first degree conspiracy to commit burglary, first degree attempted aggravated robbery, and first degree conspiracy to commit aggravated robbery.

Diew was charged with first degree attempted burglary, first degree conspiracy to commit burglary, first degree attempted aggravated robbery, and first degree conspiracy to commit aggravated robbery.

Criminal complaints filed in Redwood County said both Gach and Diew admitted to being at the Milroy residence to rob it. However, the complaints said both denied being the suspect who fired the gun.

As of Thursday afternoon, no court dates had yet been filed in the case.

The Redwood County Sheriff’s Office said it is continuing to investigate. The Milroy robbery is believed to be an isolated incident, and there is not an ongoing threat to the area, the Sheriff’s Office said.
