Lyon County seeks comment on Corridors of Commerce

MARSHALL — They’ve already voiced their own support. But Lyon County commissioners also want to hear the public’s feedback on four proposed highway projects that are applying for Corridors of Commerce funding.

A public comment period on the proposed projects, including two interchanges on Minnesota Highway 23 in Marshall, will be held April 3, said Lyon County Administrator Loren Stomberg.

The Corridors of Commerce program offers funding for highway projects that improve regional travel corridors. This year, four proposed projects affecting Lyon County will be applying for Corridors of Commerce funding. The projects include building three additional passing lanes on Minnesota Highway 23 between Pipestone and Willmar, and concrete resurfacing on Highway 23 between Russell and Pipestone. Two other proposed projects would build highway interchanges in Marshall, at the intersection of Highway 23 and U.S. 59, and Highway 23 and Minnesota Highway 19.

At their March 20 meeting, Lyon County commissioners voted to pass a resolution supporting the four highway project proposals. However, Stomberg said, commissioners also want to hear the public’s opinions. Commissioners will take comments on the four proposed projects at 9 a.m. on April 3. Lyon County residents who can’t attend the public comment period in person can send comments to Lyon County Board Chair, at 607 West Main Street, Marshall, or e-mail them to lorenstomberg@co.lyon.mn.us.
