Republicans, Democrats to hold precinct caucuses Tuesday

MARSHALL – Next week, area residents will have a chance to get involved with state politics, and even weigh in on the Minnesota gubernatorial race. Both the Republican and Democratic-Farmer-Labor parties will be holding precinct caucuses at locations around the region Tuesday.

Precinct caucuses are organized by political parties and are the first step in the process for selecting party delegates, endorsing candidates and setting party platforms. This year, one part of precinct caucuses will be a vote on which candidate the party should support for governor, according to the Minnesota Secretary of State’s Office.

Precinct caucuses start at 7 p.m. on Feb. 6. To find your local Republican or DFL caucus, you can go to the Minnesota Secretary of State Office’s caucus finder, at caucusfinder.sos.state.mn.us. A list of Lyon County caucus locations is below:

DFL precinct caucuses

A DFL caucus for Clifton, Eidsvold, Fairview, Grandview, Island Lake, Lake Marshall, Lucas, Lynd, Nordland, Stanley, Vallers and Westerheim townships, and the cities of Cottonwood, Ghent, Lynd, Marshall, Minneota and Taunton, will be held at the Adult Community Center in Marshall.

A DFL caucus for Amiret, Coon Creek, Custer, Lyons, Monroe, Rock Lake, Shelburne, and Sodus townships, and the cities of Balaton, Florence, Garvin, Russell and Tracy, will be held at Twin Circle Apartments in Tracy.

A Republican caucus for Amiret, Custer and Monroe townships, and the cities of Garvin and Tracy, will be held at Tracy High School.

A Republican caucus for Coon Creek, Lyons, Rock Lake and Shelburne townships, and the cities of Balaton, Florence and Russell, will be held at the Ralco Tech Center in Balaton.

A Republican caucus for Clifton, Fairview, Lake Marshall, Lynd, Sodus and Stanley townships, and the cities of Lynd and Marshall, will be held at Grace Life Church in Marshall.

A Republican caucus for Lucas and Vallers townships, and the city of Cottonwood, will be held at the Cottonwood Senior Center.

A Republican caucus for Eidsvold, Grandview, Island Lake, Nordland and Westerheim townships, and the cities of Ghent, Minneota and Taunton, will be held at Minneota High School.
