Man in Milroy standoff being held for court
REDWOOD FALLS — The man involved in a standoff with law enforcement in Milroy on Wednesday afternoon is being held in the Redwood County Jail, pending a court appearance.
On its online in-custody page, the Redwood County Jail listed Zachariah Steven Marczak, 35, as being taken into custody on Feb. 14. According to the in-custody list, Marczak is waiting for a court appearance on pending criminal charges.
Law enforcement, including the Brown-Lyon-Redwood-Renville Emergency Response Unit, were in Milroy for several hours on Wednesday, trying to get a man out of a storage unit where he was hiding. The Redwood County Sheriff’s Office said deputies were investigating a domestic assault-related incident on Wednesday and tried to make a traffic stop on a male individual. The driver fled from law enforcement and went into the storage building.
Law enforcement officers spent about five hours negotiating with the man over a public address system, as well as releasing gas or smoke into the storage unit in an attempt to get him to come out. The man eventually came out of the building and was taken into custody by law enforcement.
During the incident, part of Milroy was blocked off by law enforcement. Milroy Area Schools was also on lockdown during part of the incident Wednesday.
