Trial date set for sex sting case

Court cases against two Lyon County men arrested as part of a prostitution sting in Springfield continue to progress. Brown County court records said a trial date was set last week for Lawrence Depyper, 70, of Lynd. Attorneys in the case of Paul Lund, Jr. 46, of Cottonwood, will also be filing briefs over the next several weeks.

A trial date has been set for Depyper, court records said. Depyper was charged with agreeing to hire a person under 18 for prostitution. A complaint alleges Depyper called and texted and undercover agent posing as a 16-year-old girl, and went to a designated location to meet with them.

At a Nov. 21 hearing, Depyper’s attorney requested a jury trial for Depyper, Brown County court records said. A pre-trial hearing was set for Feb. 13, and a trial was set for March 8. The court gave Depyper permission to go to Texas for the winter, with the condition that he must come back to appear in court, court records said.

A hearing for Lund was held Nov. 16, court records said. Lund was also charged with hiring an underage person for prostitution. A complaint alleges Lund responded to an advertisement that law enforcement posted on and arrived at an undercover location at a residence in Brown County.

Lund’s attorney wanted to examine issues with probable cause for the charges against Lund, court records said. The court gave the defense and state prosecutors deadlines to file written arguments, court records said. The defense has until Dec. 7 to file its argument, the state has until Dec. 28 to respond, and then the defense has until Jan. 4 to reply to the response. After that, the arguments will be reviewed by a judge.
