Lyon County names new Veterans Services Officer

MARSHALL — Lyon County commissioners have appointed a new county Veterans Services Officer. At their regular meeting Tuesday, commissioners voted unanimously to appoint Amy Heidi Fier, of Taunton, as VSO. Fier will be officially sworn in later this month, said Lyon County Human Services Director Carolyn McDonald.

McDonald said the county interviewed a total of six VSO candidates on Sept. 25.

“We had a rigorous interview process,” McDonald said, and four finalist candidates were interviewed on Oct. 2. The interview committee recommended Fier for a full-time county VSO.

McDonald said Fier is currently a Taunton resident and is a retired Air Force lieutenant colonel with 20 years of service.

“If she is appointed today, her first day of work would be October 30,” McDonald said. Fier could be sworn in at the county commissioners’ next regular meeting.

“I think she’ll do a great job,” McDonald said.

If appointed, Fier’s salary would be about $50,706, McDonald said.

Commissioners voted to appoint Fier as VSO.

The county started a VSO search in August. Former VSO Terry Wing resigned in June.
