Elections at area schools Nov. 7

Several area school districts are encouraging residents to head to the polls on Nov. 7.

The Canby, Lynd and Russell-Tyler-Ruthton School Districts are each having school board elections, while the Westbrook-Walnut Grove School District is holding an operating referendum. General information about each district’s elections follows below:

Canby Public Schools

Canby will be holding elections Nov. 7 for three seats on the Canby School Board. Each seat is for a four-year term. School board members Laurie Driessen and Kari Harding have filed for re-election.

The polling place for the school board election will be at Canby High School. The polls will be open from 2-8 p.m.

Lynd Public School

Lynd will be holding elections for three seats on the Lynd School Board. School board members Mark DeJaeghere and Crystal Pochardt have filed for re-election.

The polling place for the school board election will be at Lynd Public School. The polls will be open from 4-8 p.m.

Russell-Tyler-Ruthton Public Schools

RTR will be holding elections for three seats on the RTR School Board — one each from the Russell, Tyler and Ruthton areas. Two candidates, Steven Hesse and Tami Nelson, have filed for the Ruthton seat.

School Board member Peggy Dunblazier has filed for re-election in the Tyler seat.

Polling places for the school board election will be at RTR Elementary School in Ruthton, RTR Middle School in Russell, and RTR High School in Tyler. The polls will be open from 4-8 p.m.

Wesbrook-Walnut Grove Schools

WWG will be holding an operating referendum for its district. The proposed referendum would increase the district’s revenue from $760 per student to $1,750 per student. WWG had already passed an operating referendum in 2015. However, WWG Superintendent Loy Woelber said, the larger increase being proposed this year would hopefully help meet the district’s needs into the future, and prevent the need for more referendums every couple of years.

Polling places for the referendum will be at the Walnut Grove Elementary School and Westbrook High School cafeterias. The polls will be open from 5-8 p.m.
