Pullers and back-seat drivers at the Murray County Fair

There will be a special guest coming to the Murray County Fair this year.

“We are having a tractor pull this year. They call themselves The Great Plains Tractor Pullers,” said Fair Board Vice President Dave Herrig.

“We have never had them before,” he added. “But I have heard they have done really well at other fairs.”

To prepare for the new addition to the fair this year, Herrig says, “We have a separate track set-up for them.”

Besides the new tractor pull group that will be coming, Herrig said there will be some popular events returning as well.

“We are doing this thing called the backseat driver contest.”

For this event, couples work as a team – the driver is blindfolded and the other person directs the driver. It’s a new kind of trust exercise for couples.

“It’s really fun to watch,” said Herrig.

The fair will begin Wednesday and will run the rest of the week, finishing up with the enduro car races Saturday night.
