Byrnes running for another term

MARSHALL – There will be a name on the ballot for mayor of Marshall this November – and a familiar one at that. Marshall Mayor Bob Byrnes said Monday that he will be filing for re-election this year.

“There were a number of factors that went into my decision,” Byrnes said. One was that the community has continued to grow, and has a number of new leaders just starting their work in Marshall. This year, Marshall has hired a new city administrator, a new finance director, and a new Community Services director, and will be looking at a new city assessor in the future.

“Given those changes, I really felt the need to have some leadership continuity” in the Mayor’s office, Byrnes said. Byrnes said he’s also had good experiences serving the city.

Byrnes has a long history of experience with the Marshall City Council. He was first elected mayor in 1992, after serving six years on the council.

Byrnes is currently the only candidate running for mayor, but he wasn’t the only person who filed for a city office on Monday. Noel H. Ayala filed for candidacy in City Council Ward 1.

There are now candidates running for all of the municipal seats up for election this fall. Ayala and Donald Edblom are running for a council seat in Ward 1. Current council member Larry Doom, Steven Meister and David Bero are running for a council seat in Ward 2. Current council member Ellayne Conyers, James Lozinski and John Barrows are running for a council seat in Ward 2.

The filing period for municipal elections runs through today.
