No injuries reported after explosion, fire at Clarkfield Elevator

CLARKFIELD – An explosion and fire was reported Wednesday morning at the Clarkfield Elevator, the Yellow Medicine County Sheriff’s Department said.

Around 8:07 a.m. Wednesday, the YMC Sheriff’s Department received a 911 call reporting an explosion and fire at the elevator.

Upon arrival at the elevator, emergency crews determined that all employees of the elevator were accounted for, and there were no injuries, the sheriff’s department said.

The Clarkfield Fire Department inspected the elevator and determined that it was safe for elevator staff to return to assess the damage from the explosion, the sheriff’s department said. At this point, the cause of the explosion is unknown and is under investigation.

The elevator is owned by Prairie Grain Partners, LLC in Clarkfield.

Assisting the Clarkfield Fire Department at the scene were the Clarkfield Ambulance, Granite Falls Ambulance, Yellow Medicine County Sheriff’s Office, Granite Falls Police Department, Canby Police Department and the Minnesota State Patrol.
