SMSU ranked 18th nationally for affordable Online Master’s in Math Education degree

Southwest Minnesota State University has been ranked the 18th most affordable Online Master’s in Math Education program in the country by Grad School Hub.

Grad School Hub’s mission is to provide expert information on high-quality accredited graduate degree programs offered by the nation’s best universities to help prospective students find the program that best fits their needs.

SMSU offers a 37-credit-hour master of science in education with a mathematics emphasis. This program has a non-thesis curriculum that includes courses like Mathematical Logic and Content Pedagogy with a 17:1 student-faculty ratio.

To be admitted into the program, applicants must be a licensed teacher achieving cumulative GPAs of 3.0 or above. The current average graduate tuition rate for the program is $6,885 per year. Financial aid is available to students who qualify. SMSU does not charge out-of-state tuition for any programs.

SMSU also offers an Online Masters in Education with an emphasis in Teaching, Learning, and Leadership.

‘1968’ presentation Oct. 1 and 3

A presentation, “1968: A Year That Shaped A Generation” is at 6:30 p.m. Monday and Wednesday, Oct. 1 and 3.

The Oct. 1 presentation will be at the Marshall-Lyon County Library, 201 C. St. in Marshall.

The Oct. 3 presentation will be in the Whipple Gallery, located in the McFarland Library at Southwest Minnesota State University.

History Professor Dr. Jeff Kolnick and adjunct instructor Dr. Joan Gittens will discuss the election of 1968.

The presentations are sponsored by the SMSU History Club and the Marshall-Lyon County Library. Both are free and open to the public.

Unlocking Food Insecurity presentation Oct. 10

Southwest Minnesota State University and Healthy 56258’s Nutrition Network are hosting a Lunch and Learn Event, “Food Insecurity: Unlock the Stigma” from 12:30-1:30 p.m. Wednesday Oct. 10, in the Center for Civic and Community Engagement (BA 161) on campus.

Crystal Yearous will present a program about food insecurities at SMSU by educating students, staff and community members and encouraging others to get involved.

The USDA defines food insecurity as a state in which “consistent access to adequate food is limited by a lack of money and other resources at times during the year.”

Yearous is spending the year on campus researching, networking, attending workshops and putting forth recommendations to SMSU and the Marshall community on how to battle food insecurity within the college community.

Registration for this event is required by Oct. 1 at 5 p.m. to receive the box lunch from Hy-Vee. It is free and open to the public.
