Myers named to Columbia College dean’s list

The following area student was named to the Columbia College dean’s list for the spring semester (January-April 2017): Tiffany Myers, Dawson online campus.

To be named to the dean’s list, a student must have completed 12 semester hours in a 16-week period and achieved a minimum GPA of 3.5 on a 4.0-point scale.

Simonson receives degree at Iowa State

At Iowa State University’s spring commencement ceremonies, 4,859 graduates received degrees including Emily Simonson, Marshall, bachelor of science, food science, magna cum laude.

Marshall team to graduate assistance dog program

More than 15 teams will receive diplomas in recognition of graduating Can Do Canines assistance dog program. The graduation ceremony took place June 10 at the Can Do Canines facility in New Hope. Various breeds of assistance dogs helping people with a variety of disabilities such as diabetes, seizure response, hearing loss, mobility and autism will be featured.

One of the teams graduating is Nicole Hintz, a Marshall resident and Southwest Minnesota State University student who was matched with Can Do Canines Mobility Assist Dog Mac. Nicole lives with spastic cerebral palsy which was diagnosed six months after birth due to chickenpox and a very high fever. Hintz uses a power wheelchair for mobility and after a full spinal fusion in 2008, she can only lean forward 30 degrees and is weaker on her left side.

Mobility Assistance Dog Mac is a black and white two-and-a-half-year-old Portuguese Water dog. Mac was trained by Can Do Canines staff to push elevator buttons for Hintz, open doors, tug open the fridge, help her take off jackets, hats and mittens, aid her in getting clothing off of hangers, pick up dropped items, and so much more. Since welcoming Mac into her life Hintz has been able to decrease the number of hours in which she uses personal care assistants, for help.

UW-La Crosse announces spring 2017 dean’s list

The following student has been named to the dean’s list at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse for the spring semester of the 2016-17 academic year, ending May 2017.

Students on the dean’s list from this area include: Marshall, McKenzie Vermeire, exercise and sport science: exercise science –pre-professional track.

Qualification for the dean’s list is limited to students who have attained outstanding academic achievement. To be eligible, students must have earned not less than a 3.5 semester grade-point average and have carried a minimum of 12 credits.

McCann receives MSU Moorhead scholarship

Alatera McCann, Marshall, has received a $1,000 Mary Alexander Brumby Scholarship from Minnesota State University Moorhead. McCann is the daughter of Jennifer McCann and Joel Peterson.

Minnesota State College Southeast announces spring 2017 president’s list

Minnesota State College Southeast in Red Wing and Winona announces the president’s list for spring semester 2017.

To be eligible for the president’s list, students must complete a minimum of 12 credits at MSC Southeast during an academic term and achieve a GPA of 3.5 or above.

Ridgewater announces spring semester 2017 dean’s list

Ridgewater College acknowledges those students earning recognition on the dean’s lists for spring semester 2017. In order to be included on the dean’s list a student must maintain a grade-point average of 3.5 or higher and be enrolled in at least 12 credits, and meet certain other criteria.

Northern State releases spring 2017 dean’s list

Northern State University in Aberdeen, S.D., has released the dean’s list for the spring 2017 semester.

Students who have earned at least a 3.5 grade-point average for the semester are eligible for the dean’s list. Austin Nath of Marshall was named to the dean’s list.

UMD announces dean’s list for spring semester 2017

The University of Minnesota Duluth has announced its dean’s list for spring semester 2017. Students on the dean’s list have achieved a grade-point average of 3.5 or higher.
